Your Rector sat in a tiny cabin for three
weeks on a lake in Ontario during his holidays and did a lot of
reading about virtue and…bought running shoes.
Now…he must use
them.
My plan is to be at
Crescent Beach from Tuesday Mornings to Saturday Mornings at
7:00am sharp to Run for Jesus. This is an invitation to all
brave souls to join in with me.
Why?
-
For health. So as to better serve our Lord the rest of the
day.
-
For virtue. So that we, like St. Paul, will be keeping
under [our] bodies and bringing [them] under subjection
– not being
ruled by the flesh, but ruling it, by grace.
-
For prayer. As we run and clear our minds
of the drowsiness of the night’s sleep, our minds will
be opened to and reminded of the beauty of God’s world –
contemplation of it and of higher things and thankfulness and perhaps even
greater love is likely to spring up in our hearts.
-
For fellowship. It is
easier to undergo some kind of discipline when we are
encouraged by our friends. It will be a time to speak of
things if we like, or we can be silent.
-
For witness. We may become a spectacle to the
community if enough of us gather – we will be a Christian
witness in a way. Visitors in the summer may begin to join
in with us. We can invite our
Christian neighbours or those who may not
be church-goers. It would be a time to get to know them
and for them to get to know us.
Crescent beach is a
central location for the parishes and a beautiful place, the
sand is a good surface for running (except, I'm told, when
the tide is in), and most important, there is a clear limit to
the distance! People with dogs are encouraged to bring them
and give them a run with us. We (if anyone else shows up) will
start out together, and you can stop and walk back when you have
reached your limit. It is likely that our endurance will grow
in time. Perhaps by the summer’s end we will be able to
walk or run to
the end and back.
Come to the beach and Walk or Run for Jesus!
